200 Manchester is a multi-story office building within walking distance of the UC Irvine Medical Center. The university leases the majority of the space in this building, and in 2014 the university chose to consolidate all call center programs to this location. This project expanded and renovated the existing seventh floor suite. The 6,000 sf of additional space, designed by CMA, accommodates 71 new work stations and three private supervisors’ office as well as support spaces.
Call centers are integral to the interface between a medical practice and their patients. Over time, medical specialties at UC Irvine Health have consolidated their services to economize. Staff retention is also a key issue for this service. The decision to consolidate all call center services at one off campus location allows the program to include additional staff amenities, aiding in staff retention. The final CMA design includes a training room, multiple conference rooms and a large employee break room. The break room, in particular, which serves as a respite from working at one’s desk, was designed to be a light, fun and colorful space.
